The course is designed to examine the complexities of teaching art in K-12 public school settings, curriculum, instruction, and assessment theoretical and practical while creating meaningful, engaging, and thoughtful visual arts instruction.

The course is designed to help observe and practice arts learning activities in the classroom and develop informed rationales—the “whys” behind assignments and decisions. The course will encourage engaging in scholarly and reflective art pedagogy.  It will encourage students to consider how the arts are defined in school settings and how people influence these practices in out-of-school settings.
